DANCEHALL QUEEN AUSTRALIA
A Jamaican institution since the early 90's, Dancehall Queen contests today take place all over the globe - from Chicago to London, Berlin to Tokyo.
The first ever European DHQ finals (held in April 2007 in Bologna, Italy) attracted over 1200 people with dancers from nine EU countries.
Every July, the International DHQ finals take place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, with dancers from over 10 different countries, and it is there the world’s number one Dancehall Queen will be crowned.
Established by Surgeon General Sound (Nick Toth & K-Note) in 2007, Dancehall Queen Australia is the only national reggae dance competition with heats in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide plus national finals.
We are working to establish a DHQ movement in Australia that can produce world-class dancers to compete on an international level.
Dancehall reggae, one of the fastest growing musical genres worldwide, provides the back-drop for these highly energetic and entertaining competitions in which the most creative and original dancer will take the crown of ‘Dancehall Queen’ at the end of the night.
After a highly successful first year, DHQ Australia returns in 2008 bigger and better than ever!
So all ladies who know how to move, shake and dutty wine, sign up for your local heats and be part of this world-wide culture! |
